YANGIAN SYMMETRY IN CONFORMAL FIELD-THEORY

We show that the SU(N), level-I Wess-Zumino-Witten conformal field the ory provides a natural realization of the Yangian Y(sl(N)) for N great er-than-or-equal-to 3. We also construct a hamiltonian H-2 which commu tes with the Yangian generators and study its spectrum. Our results, w hich generalize work by Haldane et al. [1], provide the field theory e xtension of the algebraic structure of the SU(N) Haldane-Shastry spin chains with 1/r2 exchange.
