Gr. Anderson et Th. Cribb, 5 NEW DIDYMOZOID TREMATODES (PLATYHELMINTHES, DIGENEA) FROM AUSTRALIAN PLATYCEPHALID FISHES, Zoologica scripta, 23(2), 1994, pp. 83-93
Five new didymozoid trematodes are described from two species of platy
cephalid fish collected in Moreton Bay, Australia. Indodidymozoon more
tonensis sp. n. from the buccal cavity and branchial arches and I. sut
tiei sp. n. from the flesh are described from Platycephalus fuscus. In
dodidymozoon lesteri sp. n. from the belly skin, I, pearsoni sp. n. fr
om the eye, and Helicodidymozoon tortor gen. n., sp. n. from the bucca
l cavity, branchial arches and operculum are described from Platycepha
lus endrachtensis. The taxonomic composition of the genus Didymozoon i
s discussed. Five species, D. branchiale, D. brevicolle. D. koti, D. m
usculi and D. platycephali are moved to Indodidymozoon; the generic di
agnosis of Indodidymozoon is revised. One species, D. spirale, and one
species from Neometadidymozoon, N. helicis, arc moved to the newly er
ected Helicodidymozoon. Helicodidymozoon differs from Didymozoon, Indo
didymozoon and Neometadidymozoon in the structure of the hindbody whic
h is spirally twisted.
