Abstract
Stochastic quantization of the O(N) phi(4) scalar field theory leads t o a variational determination of the self-energy. An auxiliary composi te field is introduced, leading to a simpler formalism. For a solvable toy model, variational results are significantly improved with respec t to those without this auxiliary field, even for its crudest propagat or approximation.
