Abstract
In this study, the influence of pretreating buccal epithelial cells wi th purified preparations of lectins extracted from food on S. salivari us cell adhesion was investigated. All lectins lead to an increase in the number of adhered bacteria, except for the lectin from potato, sug gesting that dietary lectins may play an important role on buccal colo nization by S. salivarius.
