Aa. Revina et Ol. Gribkova, EFFECT OF WATER ON ELECTROCATALYTIC OXIDATION OF SULFUR-DIOXIDE IN ACETONITRILE WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF MANGANESE(III) TETRATOLYLPORPHYRIN CHLORIDE, Russian journal of electrochemistry, 30(5), 1994, pp. 593-597
The study concerns the effect of water on the catalytic activity of Mn
(III) tetratolylporphyrin in an aqueous-acetonitrile solution in the o
xidation of sulfur dioxide by molecular oxygen. It is shown that an in
crease in water concentration (to 2.2 M) causes the Q band of the opti
cal density spectrum to shift as much as 8 - 10 nm into the UV region
for both the original Mn(III)TTP complex and its reduced activated for
m, the Mn(IV)TTP...O(2)2- peroxocomplex. The presence of water increas
es the rate of both the catalytic oxidation of sulfur dioxide and the
regeneration of the catalyst to its original form.
