A. George et Ww. Wilson, PREDICTING PROTEIN CRYSTALLIZATION FROM A DILUTE-SOLUTION PROPERTY, Acta crystallographica. Section D, Biological crystallography, 50, 1994, pp. 361-365
A dilute solution parameter obtained from static light-scattering meas
urements is proposed as a predictor for protein crystallization experi
ments. The osmotic second virial coefficients, B22, have been measured
for a variety of proteins in solvents that are known to promote cryst
allization and the values for B22 were found to lie within a fairly na
rrow range which we refer to as a crystallization slot. Solution condi
tions which were known not to favor crystallization of the proteins re
sulted in B22 values well outside the crystallization slot.
