Abstract
What do database (DB) querying and information retrieval imply for lin guistics? What are data for the linguist? How can one envisage efficie nt access to data? I propose that DB querying in language sciences be designed linguistically and directly determined by linguistic data. Li nguists from various backgrounds could then use a consensual query too l. An implemented data-directed DB querying system, which was develope d for research on French interrogative structures, is presented in det ail.
