We investigate the weak conversion process LAMBDAN --> NN using the qu
ark model and the QCD-modified effective weak Hamiltonian evaluated at
a scale congruent-to 1 GeV. The results show large violations of the
DELTAI = 1/2 rule for S-1(0) --> S-1(0) and S-1(0) --> P-3(0) transiti
ons. The amplitudes for these transitions, moreover, are sufficiently
large that the resulting violation should be readily detectable in lig
ht hypernuclear decay experiments.
