Mj. Gardner et al., 9 DUPLICATED TRANSFER-RNA GENES ON THE PLASTID-LIKE DNA OF THE MALARIA PARASITE PLASMODIUM-FALCIPARUM, Gene, 144(2), 1994, pp. 307-308
A major feature of the plastid-like circular DNA of Plasmodium falcipa
rum is an inverted repeat comprising duplicated genes for rRNA (rrn) a
nd tRNA (trn). We have identified nine putative trn genes in each arm
of the repeat on the basis of their potential clover-leaf structures a
nd conserved residues. Northern blots indicate that these trn genes ar
e expressed.
