The reaction of Cu2Ru6(CO)(16)(mu(6)-C)(NCMe)(2), I, with the thiacrow
n ether 1,5,9-trithiacyclododecane (12S3) resulted in the extraction o
f both copper atoms from the ruthenium cluster complex by the thiacrow
n and formation of the salt 3)-12S3)(eta(1)-12S3)](2)[Ru-6-(CO)(16)(mu
(6)-C)], 2, in 56% yield. Compound 2 was characterized by a single-cry
stal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structures of the ions are simila
r to those found in previously reported salts.
