Hydrogen chemisorption energy dependence on the electronic structure o
f the 3d, 4d, and 5d transition metals is examined in terms of the And
erson-Newns model. High catalytic effectiveness of the Pt-group metals
in hydrogen evolution is explained. The Ag-H binding energy and the e
nergies of hydrogen chemisorption on the metals of group IB of the per
iodic table (Cu, Ag, and Au) are obtained.
