Ma. Pletnev et al., EFFECT OF TETRAALKYL AMMONIUM-SALTS ON ELECTRIC-CONDUCTIVITY OF ACID BROMIDE SOLUTIONS, Russian journal of electrochemistry, 29(9), 1993, pp. 984-987
Studies have been done on the effect of tetraethyl ammonium bromide an
d tetrabutyl ammonium bromide on the electric conductivity and viscosi
ty of dilute ([Br-1] = 0.1 M) and concentrated ([Br-1] = 3 M) aqueous
acid bromide solutions. In both cases, the specific conductivity of th
e solutions was shown to decrease with an increase in the concentratio
n of tetraalkyl ammonium (TAA) salts. The corrected (for viscosity) pr
otonic conductivity in concentrated solutions rises with an increase i
n the concentration of TAA cations, and it falls in dilute solutions.
The obtained results are explained in terms of the effect that the con
centration of organic cations has on the solvent structure and on the
proton transfer mechanism.
