Abstract
A range of Zwitterionic D-pi-A adducts of TCNQ, where D is a long chai n quinolinium cation, have been synthesized and characterized. Langmui r and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films have been fabricated for adducts ha ving alkyl chain lengths varying from 8 to 20 carbon atoms. A study of the area per molecule values and the ultraviolet and visible spectra of the LB films shows an abrupt change in film behaviour occurring at alkyl chain lengths greater than or equal to 15 carbon atoms. Tentativ e explanations for this behaviour are given.
