Abstract
A major hopanoid component of a Victorian brown coal has been isolated and shown to be (22R) 17alpha,21beta(H)-homohopane by a single crysta l X-ray diffraction study. When analysed using capillary GC-MS techniq ues this compound had the same retention time as the later eluting 17a lpha,21beta(H)-homohopane from crude oil.
