Pr. Cummins et al., DSM COMPLETE SYNTHETIC SEISMOGRAMS - P-SV, SPHERICALLY SYMMETRICAL, CASE, Geophysical research letters, 21(15), 1994, pp. 1663-1666
In a previous paper, [Cummins et al., 1994, hereafter referred to as D
SMI], we presented theoretical and computational results for calculati
ng complete SH (toroidal) synthetic seismograms for spherically symmet
ric, isotropic, media. We now extend our treatment to the P-SV (sphero
idal) part of the wavefield. No asymptotic approximations are used, an
d the synthetics, which include both body and surface waves, can be co
mputed for a broad range of frequencies. Examples of synthetic profile
s axe presented for a 600km deep source in the IASP91 model for the pe
riod range 4-5000s. Such synthetics can contribute greatly to the dete
rmination of earth structure from analyses of broadband seismograms.
