Gv. Zhutaeva et al., ELECTROCHEMICAL GAS SENSORS WITH HYDROPHILIC POLYMER ELECTROLYTE, Russian journal of electrochemistry, 29(12), 1993, pp. 1327-1333
The functional properties of electrochemical gas sensors with hydrophi
lic polymer electrolyte were analyzed by comparing them with those of
sensors with free electrolyte, and also with hydrophobic polymer elect
rolyte. Two model reactions (oxygen electroreduction and hydrogen elec
trooxidation) were used to show how they proceeded at the interface be
tween a platinum electrode and a polyvinyl alcohol-based hydrophilic p
olymer electrolyte. Some metrological parameters of oxygen and hydroge
n sensors with hydrophilic polymer electrolyte are presented: the depe
ndence of the sensor signal on the concentration of the measured gas c
omponent, fast response, and operating life.
