IRIDOIDS AND VERBASCOSIDE IN CALLITRICHACEAE, HIPPURIDACEAE AND LENTIBULARIACEAE

Callitriche stagnalis (Callitrichaceae), Hippuris vulgaris (Hippuridac eae), Pinguicula moranensis and Utricularia vulgaris (both Lentibulari aceae) have been investigated for iridoid glucosides and verbascoside or similar compounds. Aucubin and/or catalpol were found in all four s pecies and esters of these iridoids were present in three of them. Fro m Utricularia vulgaris were isolated two novel iridoid esters, namely 6-O-p-coumaroylaucubin and 10-O-caffeoylaucubin. Verbascoside was pres ent in Callitriche, Hippuris and Pinguicula, but could not be detected in Utricularia.
