Foliage of Cupressus bakeri contains a group of compounds related to (
-)cis-calamenene, six of which are new: two hydrocarbons (cis-muurola-
3,5-diene and cis-muurola-4(14),5-diene); two alcohols (cis-muurol-5-e
n-4 alpha- and -4 beta-ol); and two keto-compounds (2-ethylisomenthone
and 2-(3-oxobutyl)-isomenthone). The ketones, including the co-occurr
ing known cis-14-normuurol-5-en-4-one, are apparently formed by oxidat
ive degradation of a cis-muurolane-type precursor. This group of compo
unds is also present in several other Cupressus species.
