J. Vandam et al., QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE-DETERMINATION OF THERMAL-DEGRADATION PRODUCTS OF TYPE-C HYDRAULIC FLUIDS, Journal of fire sciences, 12(4), 1994, pp. 376-387
A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the thermal decomposition m
ixtures of some type C hydraulic fluids has been done. The decompositi
on products were identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. D
ue to the nature of some decomposition compounds, a specific pre-colum
n derivatization technique in combination with a well-adapted capillar
y column was necessary. Type C hydraulic fluids only slightly decompos
e in the temperature range from 500 to 700-degrees-C, resulting in low
levels of decomposition compounds present in the inhalation chamber i
n which laboratory animals are placed. The quantitative composition su
pports earlier research on the acute inhalation toxicity testing on la
boratory animals.
