MEASUREMENTS OF MAGNETIC-FIELDS ON WHITE-DWARFS

The results of Zeeman observations of sixteen normal DA white dwarfs a re reported. Upper Limits on the effective magnetic fields in the rang e from one to several tens of kG have been obtained for all these obje cts. Based on our and all the other published data, we show that it is possible to construct the magnetic-field function for white dwarfs-th e incidence of white dwarfs versus their surface magnetic fields. For field strengths greater than 100 kG, the magnetic-field function repre sents a power law.
