The crystallization kinetics of syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS) were st
udied using nonisothermal DSC analysis. Crystallization rates and half
-times were determined from the glass transition temperature (approxim
ately 100-degrees-C) up to the melt temperature (approximately 270-deg
rees-C) for various molecular weight SPS polymers. The results suggest
that the crystallization rate of SPS is molecular weight dependent. T
hese results are also compared with previously determined crystallizat
ion kinetics of high density polyethylene. The maximum crystallization
rate of high density polyethylene is approximately ten times greater
than that of SPS.
