K. Kobayashi et al., STRUCTURAL INVESTIGATIONS OF POLYION COMPLEX LANGMUIR-BLODGETT-FILMS CONTAINING FLUOROCARBON CHAINS, Thin solid films, 247(2), 1994, pp. 248-251
The structures of the polyion complex Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film, in
particular the effects of the side-chain of the polymer cation on the
structure, were investigated by using X-ray diffraction, ellipsometry,
Fourier-transform infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy and con
tact angle measurement. It was found that the side-chain of polymer ca
tions affects the layered structure and surface structure of polyion c
omplex LB films, and that the LB film of perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFU
A)-poly(vinylbenzyltrimethylammonium chloride) containing a longer sid
e-chain has a more disordered structure than those of PFUA-poly(vinyla
mine) and PFUA-poly(allylamine), which have a well-ordered layered str
ucture.
