A one-dimensional reaction-diffusion model of normal and tumor tissue
growth has been proposed in this paper. ft has been observed that spat
ially variable seff diffusion coefficients acts as a key factor for ex
plaining the characteristic properties of tumor tissue growth. The con
cept of the introduction of a spatially variable self diffusion coeffi
cient in the reaction-diffusion model comes from the idea of 'contact
cell inhibition' of mitosis which is a well recognized hypothesis in B
iology.
