F. Zheng et al., A STUDY OF VITAMIN-E ABSORPTION IN ROTIFE R AND COD LARVAE AND THE EFFECT OF DHA CONTENT IN ROTIFER FOR COD LARVAE, Nippon Suisan Gakkaishi, 63(1), 1997, pp. 77-84
An experiment was conducted to determine the absorption of vitamin E (
VE, alpha-toc.) in rotifer and cod larvae, and the effect of DHA conte
nt in rotifer on the dropsy rate of cod larvae. In this experiment, ro
tifers were enriched with dry shark eggs supplemented with different l
evels of three types VE, such as DL-alpha-toc. acetate, DL-alpha-toc.
free, or D-alpha-toc. free. It was shown that D-alpha-toc. free was ac
cumulated in rotifer more efficiently than DL-alpha-toc. free. Cod lar
vae can convert DL-alpha-toc, acetate to a free type of VE, but its ab
sorption was low compared with the free type of VE. Furthermore, it wa
s also found that the occurrence of dropsy rate in cod larvae reduced
when the DHA content in rotifer was increased.
