Abstract
Some properties of five-layer symmetrical periods from two nonabsorbin g dielectric materials with high and low refractive indices are discus sed. Conditions are derived for which two high-reflectance spectral re gions (stop bands) are suppressed. Period structures with two successi ve stop bands suppressed are proposed. The results are applied to the initial design of a multilayer heat reflector with high visible transm ittance, using only two materials. (C) 1997 Optical Society of America .
