V. Ziparo et al., INFLAMMATORY PSEUDOTUMOR OF THE LIVER - REPORT OF 4 CASES AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE, Journal of experimental & clinical cancer research, 13(2), 1994, pp. 159-164
Inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver is a benign localized lesion of
unknown etiology, frequently misinterpreted as a malignant process by
non-invasive diagnostic techniques. Histology shows fibroblasts, histi
ocytes and plasma cells within a fibrous framework. We report four cas
es of inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver, and compare their feature
s with previously reported cases. Inflammatory pseudotumor may be an u
nderestimated entity, and because of its self-limiting and favorable c
linical course it must not be neglected in the differential diagnosis
of a suspect liver mass in order to avoid, when possible, unnecessary
surgical resections.
