Vs. Sibirtsev et al., MECHANISMS OF INTERACTIONS OF SOME PHENYL BENZOIMIDAZOLE AND PHENYLINDOLE DYES WITH DNA, Bioorganiceskaa himia, 20(6), 1994, pp. 650-668
Interactions of several phenylbenzoimidazole and phenylindole dyes wit
h DNA were investigated by means of absorption and fluorescent spectra
in aqueous solutions. Relative contributions of ionic and hydrogen bo
nds in to these interactions were determined. Spectral properties of t
he pure dyes in isopropanol were studied to evaluate the influence of
microenvironmental factors on the emission of potentially active fluor
ochromes. Several parameters of the dyes' binding with nucleic acids w
as calculated basing on spectral data. Relations among some binding ch
aracteristics and spectral parameters of the dyes are presented. A ser
ies of terminal electronic donor-acceptor substituentes for the direct
ed synthesis of new fluorochromes for DNA are suggested and requiremen
ts for their application for several classes of compounds are formulat
ed.
