High temperature mechanical properties of vanadium alloyed gamma base
Ti aluminides have been related to the microstructure. The microstruct
ures were controlled by chemistry modification vanadium alloying betwe
en 5.3 and 12.7 mol.% for phase distribution control and isothermal fo
rging. The properties were evaluated using tensile tests at strain rat
es between 3 x 10(-4) s-1 and 0.1 s-1 and at temperatures between 1070
and 1420 K. The gamma plus beta phase intermetallic exhibited excelle
nt hot workability with an elongation more than 600% and an m-value of
0.8. The mechanism of the superplastic deformation was critically dis
cussed.
