Mp. Vanexter et al., EXPLANATION OF DOUBLE-PEAKED INTENSITY NOISE SPECTRUM OF AN EXTERNAL-CAVITY SEMICONDUCTOR-LASER, Optics communications, 110(1-2), 1994, pp. 137-140
We give a quantitative explanation for the intriguing double- peaked s
tructure in the intensity noise spectrum of an external-cavity semicon
ductor laser. We find strong suppression of the intensity noise due to
coupling between the subthreshold modes (FM-locking). The measured po
wer dependence of the shift and broadening of the double-peaked struct
ure allows detailed diagnostics of the laser.
