This study examined over 90 senior German police managers categorised
into Type A internal and external, Type B internal and external locus
of control. It compared the four groups experience of work stress, job
satisfaction and general health. Individuals with high levels of Type
A behaviour coupled with high perceived locus for control expressed l
east stress and most satisfaction. Personality was not as clearly link
ed to physical or psychological health. The implication of these findi
ngs for future research and intervention within police services is dis
cussed.
