Jh. Langkowski et al., RADIATION EXPOSURE DURING CT USING STANDA RD AND SPIRAL TECHNIQUES, RoFo. Fortschritte auf dem Gebiete der Rontgenstrahlen und der neuenbildgebenden Verfahren, 161(1), 1994, pp. 3-11
Comparison of the radiation exposure during CT quoted in the literatur
e shows considerable variation; this depends on differences in apparat
us, methods of examination and measurements. A systematic investigatio
n into radiation dose during CT is therefore necessary to obtain accur
ate radiation doses during various examinations in order to balance ri
sks against usefulness. The present paper deals with the radiation dos
e received by the patient during examinations of the cerebrum, neck, t
horax, upper and lower abdomen and pelvis, using standard and spiral C
T techniques. Organ doses for all organs at risk, surface dose, total
body dose and dose profiles along the body axis for each type of exami
nation have been established, which will allow the user to evaluate ra
diation dose.
