Mi. Gonzalezanglada et al., 2 CASES OF LARYNGEAL LEISHMANIASIS IN PATIENTS INFECTED WITH HIV, European journal of clinical microbiology & infectious diseases, 13(6), 1994, pp. 509-511
A high incidence of visceral leishmaniasis has been documented in HIV-
infected patients in endemic areas. In these patients, atypical locati
ons and a chronic course of the disease are more frequent. Two AIDS pa
tients with laryngeal leishmaniasis are reported. These cases are beli
eved to be the first of this type documented in the literature. The po
ssible pathogenic mechanisms of the disease are discussed. Infection w
ith Leishmania donovani may eventually be described for every organ co
ntaining phagocytic cells.
