Jd. Fingeroth et al., ZYGOMYCOSIS DUE TO MUCOR-CIRCINELLOIDES IN A NEUTROPENIC PATIENT RECEIVING CHEMOTHERAPY FOR ACUTE MYELOGENOUS LEUKEMIA, Clinical infectious diseases, 19(1), 1994, pp. 135-137
Mucor circinelloides form circinelloides has rarely been associated wi
th human disease, even in immunocompromised patients. We report a case
of cutaneous zygomycosis caused by M. circinelloides in a 23-year-old
neutropenic woman receiving consolidation chemotherapy for acute myel
ogenous leukemia. The organism was exquisitely susceptible to amphoter
icin B. Despite the fact that the patient was profoundly neutropenic f
or an additional 3 weeks, the lesions began to resolve during therapy,
and no surgical debridement was required.
