Abstract
Diaryl thioketones are selectively reduced with ytterbium metal to dia rylmethanethiols, diarylmethanes or tetraarylethylenes, via thiometall acycle intermediates which undergo electrophilic coupling at thiocarbo nyl carbon and sulfur.
