A series of consecutive Meteor-30 satellite images is used to consider
the non-stationary dynamic situation in the South Western area of the
Black Sea in July 1985, involving the development of two oppositely d
irected jet currents (South Westerly and North Easterly). The paper di
scusses the possible effect of the mushroom-shaped jet current forming
off the shelf near the Bosporus straits, in the area of Western cyclo
nic circulation of the sea, on the water exchange through the straits
and the penetration of surface water from the Sea of Marmara containin
g Mediterranean Sea forms of plankton into the deep-water area of the
sea.
