We discuss the motion of an impurity advected by a non-uniform, unstea
dy flow provided by the ID Burgers equation with initial sinusoidal ve
locity. The analysis mainly concerns die interaction of the impurity w
ith the developing shock structure. Our numerical experiments suggest
that the shock centre is the final equilibrium position for any impuri
ty, independent of its properties and initial conditions. For the case
s with small relaxation time die numerical results are in agreement wi
th those obtained by a steady simplified analysis.
