This paper reports some important results of an experimental investiga
tion carried out to study the heat transfer coefficients during pool b
oiling of lithium bromide-water solutions over horizontal stainless st
eel tubes. An experimental setup was fabricated to conduct the experim
ents and data were collected in a heat flux range of 15 to 108 kW/m2 s
ystem pressure of 4 to 9.93 kPa and for a three-fold variation in the
lithium bromide mass concentration. Three stainless steel tubes of dif
ferent diameters were used as the test lengths. The study of the local
and average heat transfer coefficients indicated that the boiling phe
nomenon is not significantly affected by tube diameter. The solution c
oncentration is a dominant factor and as it increases heat transfer co
efficient decreases and the local heat transfer coefficients decrease
especially at sides and bottom.
