The ability of the yeast Bullera singularis VKM Y-1299 to form extrace
llular polysaccharides was studied. The culture synthesized identical
galactomannans with a ratio of galactose to mannose of 1:1.2 on two di
fferent nutrient media. Glycoside linkages C1 --> C4 and C1 --> C3 wit
h an-alpha-configuration predominated in the polymers. The culture stu
died produced neither glucuronoxylomamans characteristic of the yeasts
of the genus Bullera nor beta-mannans typical of representatives of t
he genus Sporobolomyces. This confirms the literature data on the isol
ated position of B. singularis in the family Sporobolomycetaceae.
