Tribological behaviour of plasma-sprayed Al2O3-40%ZrO2 ceramic coating
s against three different phosphorus-containing cast irons was investi
gated at 200-degrees-C and 300-degrees-C. The seizure loads were teste
d and the friction coefficients recorded. Wear rates under different c
onditions were also measured. The friction interface properties were a
nalyzed using SEM etc. The anti-friction characteristics of a Al2O3-40
%ZrO2-cast iron tribosystem lubricated with CD level oil and the main
wear mechanism of the cast iron were summarized. The influence of phos
phorus in cast iron was investigated. It is suggested that a lower pho
sphorus content cast iron would be selected as a tribological material
to match with plasma-sprayed Al2O3-40%ZrO2 ceramic coatings under oil
lubricated conditions. The sliding Of Al2O3-40%ZrO2 coating against c
ast iron involves a chemical finishing caused by the Al2O340%ZrO2 coat
ing on the surface of cast iron.
