Abstract
Most large scale industries in Kuwait are located in the Shuaiba Indus trial Area (SIA). Discharges from the SIA are major sources of polluti on in the local sea. The effect of industrial effluents on the marine environment were assessed. To minimize the pollution level in the mari ne environment, steps were taken to establish a central wastewater tre atment plant to include a dissolved air flotation (DAF) unit, as a fir st step in removing oil and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This st udy was initiated to investigate and optimize the various processes of the treatment as well as to collect the data necessary to correctly i ncorporate these processes into the full-scale design of the Shuaiba i ndustrial wastewater treatment facility.
