Abstract
Recent calculations of electron impact excitation of hydrogen and hydr ogen-like ions are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on close coupling and closely related studies (involving an optical potential, or using pseu dostates). Effective (thermally averaged) collision strengths deduced from these calculations are discussed, and comments are made concernin g their probable reliability. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
