Sk. Bramble et Gr. Jackson, OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF FINGERMARK ENHANCEMENT BY FREQUENCY-DOMAIN FILTERING, Journal of forensic sciences, 39(4), 1994, pp. 920-932
Fourier transformation of an image and subsequent filtering in the fre
quency domain has been found to be an effective way to improve images
of fingermarks on interfering backgrounds. Examples are given of succe
ss in reducing periodic backgrounds that would otherwise have prevente
d fingermark identification. In addition, it has been found that bette
r background suppression is obtained when high-resolution images are u
sed.
