Iron-intercalated molybdenum disulfide, obtained by flocculation of a
MoS2 single-layer dispersion in the presence of ferrous sulfate, was s
tudied by electron microscopy and Mossbauer spectroscopy. Iron was fou
nd to occur at both II and III oxidation states between the MoS2 layer
s. The formation mechanism of this intercalated compound and its compo
sition are discussed.
