Abstract
Transmission of 10Gbit/s over 100km of standard fibre at 1540nm is rep orted for a strained multiquantum well electroabsorption modulator wit hout prechirping of the laser source. The device has been optimised fo r chirp performance using computer simulations and is fully compatible for monolithic integration with a distributed feedback laser.
