Abstract
Factors shaping the development of trapped ion cells in Fourier transf orm ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) mass spectrometry have evolved alo ng several lines. Areas of improvement include maximizing the quadrupo lar character of the cell, reducing the radial electric trapping field , and improving the linearity of the excitation event. This review foc uses on cell development for optimum FTICR performance.
