Va. Gopar et al., RANDOM-MATRIX STUDY OF MULTIPROBE MESOSCOPIC DEVICES .2. A 4-PROBE ONE-DIMENSIONAL SYSTEM, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 50(4), 1994, pp. 2502-2509
A random-matrix analysis is presented for a four-terminal device consi
sting of one-dimensional mesoscopic wires. Interest is focused on the
potential difference v measured between the two sides of a weaklY diso
rdered conductor. Various interference effects are found in the statis
tical distribution w(v) of v. Both the centroid and width Of w(v) osci
llate as a function of the probe separation, the size of the oscillati
ons depending on the coupling constant epsilon between the probes and
the wire. For epsilon much less than 1, w(v) is wide enough to yield a
nonzero probability to find a potential rise instead of a potential d
rop.
