R-(-)- and S-(+)-2-phenylpropionic acids exhibit equivalent reactivity
toward the excited state of 4-methyl-2-quinoline-carbonitrile carboni
trile in acetonitrile. No significant magnetic field effects were obse
rved upon the relative quantum yield for photochemical reactions betwe
en the quinolinecarbonitrile with the optically active 2-phenylpropion
ic acids in benzene. No unusual phenomena were observed under well con
trolled conditions with sufficient repetitions.
