The adduct formed between CpZrCl3 and a biaryl lactone has been studie
d in toluene solution by Zr K X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The adduc
t is dimeric in toluene, as evidenced by a long Zr-Zr distance of 3.76
angstrom. In the dimer [CpZrCl2(lactone 1d)(mu-Cl)2, each zirconium c
entre is pseudo-octahedrally coordinated with the lactone carbonyl oxy
gen coordinated to the metal at a distance of 2.14 angstrom.
