Abstract
During a survey of latex samples of Calophyllum teysmannii for anti-HI V coumarins (calanolide A, costatolide), calanone (5), an unprecedente d benzoyl substituted coumarin, was isolated and its structure determi ned by spectroscopic analyses. The known soulattrolide (3), and the re lated ketone 4 were also isolated. Soulanrolide inhibited the cytopath ic effect of in vitro HIV-1 infection, while calanone (5) and the keto ne 4 were inactive.
