A new system of radiatively coupled waveguides is proposed. The coupli
ng between the waveguides is due to diffraction of light by their corr
ugated surfaces. The disper-sion curves and the dependence or the coup
ling length on the structure parameters are calculated. The optimal di
stance between the waveguides that ensures the maximum degree of trans
fer of radiation is determined. It is shown that in this case the coup
ling length has its maximum value equal to pi/2alpha(rad), where alpha
(rad) is the coefficient representing radiative losses in a single wav
eguide.
